Tony Bellew

Tony Bellew served as a professional English boxer between 2007 and 2018. Born on November 30, 1982, in Liverpool, England, he started boxing at age 15 for fitness goals and to satisfy his father. Bellew achieved quick success in the amateur boxing ranks by winning three consecutive ABA heavyweight titles. He started his professional boxing career in 2007 at the light-heavyweight division. He moved to cruiserweight division after multiple years of domestic success to win his most important victory. Bellew captured the WBC cruiserweight title by defeating Ilunga Makabu at Goodison Park which served as the home stadium of his favorite Everton FC in May 2016.

Bellew fought prominent opponents during his career when he won two heavyweight matches against David Haye. The eighth round defeat in November 2018 marked the end of Bellew's boxing career. Bellew declared his retirement from boxing after the fight by saying "There will be no more fighting from me."

After his boxing career Tony Bellew started working in media and entertainment. Bellew played the role of "Pretty" Ricky Conlan in the 2015 film Creed and returned to play the same character in Creed III (2023). Bellew joined Channel 4's SAS: Who Dares Wins in 2020 and secured a runner-up position during the 2023 season of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!.

Bellew launched his BBC Sounds podcast Hooligans in 2025 to examine the development and decline of football violence alongside its social economic roots.
