Tom Watson

Tom Watson is an American professional golfer who dominated the game in the ‘70s and ‘80s alongside of some of the greatest the game has ever seen. In the peak of his career, Watson was the winner of 8 major tournaments: five Open Championships, two Masters, and one U.S. Open. Watson narrowly missed a career “grand slam” of majors at the PGA Championship several times and is ranked 8th all-time in most career major championships. As a member of the PGA Tour, Watson had 39 wins which ranks 11th all-time. Watson was named PGA Player of the Year 6 different times and was the #1 ranked player in the world according to the World Golf Rankings for 4 straight years (1978-1982). Watson played on four Ryder Cup teams for Team USA and has been captain of the team on 2 occasions, including the American’s 1993 victory. Watson has competed professionally since 1971 and still finds himself in contention despite his age like in 2009 when at age 60 he was a part of a 4 player playoff for the Open Championship which he finished runner-up. In 1988, Watson was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame for his success and contributions to the game of golf.
