Terry Labonte

Terry Labonte is a retired NASCAR driver and former NASCAR Winston Cup Champion. Labonte debuted in NASCAR at Darlington Speedway in 1978, and competed for Rookie of the Year honors in 1979, eventually finishing third in that category in his first full season. In 1980, Labonte won his first ever NASCAR race, a victory at Darlington raceway over Labor Day Weekend. Labonte would not reach Victory Lane for another two seasons, but finally notched his second career win in 1983. Labonte would win his first NASCAR Winston Cup Championship in the 1984 season, winning two races and dominating his competition. After a lackluster decade of racing, Labonte would have his career resurrected in 1994 when he signed with Hendrick Motorsports to drive the #5 Kellogg’s Chevrolet. Two years later, Labonte would win his second and last championship, winning two races that same season. In 2004, Labonte announced his retirement from full time racing, switching to a part time schedule for the next two years. Labonte notched his last career victory in 2003, winning the Southern 500 at Darlington Speedway. Labonte has raced for various teams over his part time career, and has recently retired from all of NACAR at the end of the 2014 season. Only time will tell if Labonte will try and make another comeback.
