Steve Beuerlein

Steve Beuerlein had a successful 17-year NFL career, but he is best remembered as a standout quarterback for the Carolina Panthers. Beuerlein first starred in college at Notre Dame, starting 39 games for the Irish before being selected in the fourth round of the 1987 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Raiders. He spent his first four seasons with the Raiders, starting two years, before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys. Beuerlein was Troy Aikman's backup and won Super Bowl XXVII with the Cowboys. He had his first significant pro success in 1993 with the Phoenix Cardinals and threw for over 3,000 yards for the first time. After two years with the Cardinals, Beuerlein was selected first in the 1995 Expansion Draft and started the inaugural game for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It was with Jacksonville's expansion partner, the Carolina Panthers, that Beuerlein would have the best run of his career. He spent five seasons with Carolina, eventually starting out as the backup before taking over for starter Kerry Collins. In 1999, Beuerlein set single-season team records that still stand with 4,436 yards and 26 touchdowns and made his first Pro Bowl. After another campaign where he threw for over 3,700 yards, he finished out his career with the Denver Broncos for three seasons. Since retiring from football, Beuerlein has been an NFL analyst for CBS Sports.
