About Steve Avery
Steve Avery is recognized for his thirteen seasons in the MLB as a left-handed pitcher obtaining almost a thousand strikeouts. Born in 1970 in Trenton Michigan, Avery signed for his first time with the Atlanta Braves at 20 years old. During an extremely successful first season, Avery had many milestones. He lead the Braves to their first win of the season over their rival and defending world champion, the Reds. He earned a 3.38 ERA and assembled an impressive record of 18-8. In addition, Avery was remembered for an amazing performance shutting out the Pittsburg Pirates for almost 17 innings over two games. As a result, he was declared with MVP honors for the 1991 NLCS. Throughout his career, he played seven seasons with the Atlanta Braves, two with the Boston Red Sox, one with the Cincinatti Reds, and one with the Detroit Tigers. During his time with the Boston Red Sox, Avery was the number two starting pitcher behind Pedro Martinez. Avery made nineteen relief appearances in his final season in the MLB with the Detroit Tigers, and throughout his eleven-season career he ultimately earned a 96-83 record with 980 strikeouts and a 4.19 ERA in 15542⁄3 innings pitched.
