About Shani Davis
Shani Davis became the first black athlete to win a gold medal in an individual sport at the 2006 Turin Olympic Games. His gold medal performance came in the 1000- meter speed skating competition. During those same games he earned a silver medal in the 1500-meter. Four-years later he defended his 1,000-meter title by winning gold at the Vancouver Olympic Games and earned another silver in the 1,500-meter. At the World Allround Championships and World Sprint Championships he has had similar success, earning back-to-back gold medals in the Allround at the 2005 and 2006 championships and a gold medal in the sprint at the 2009 championships. At the World Single Distance Championships he has dominated, winning seven Gold Medals in the 1000-meter, 1500-meter and Team Pursuit competitions from 2004 to 2011 to go along with three more silver medals and two more bronze medals. Davis is considered to be one of the best sprint skaters in United States history.
