Sammy Sullivan

The U.S. Army has decorated Captain Sammy Sullivan who serves as a vital component of the USA Women's Rugby Sevens team. Team USA won its inaugural Olympic women's rugby medal through Sullivan's efforts at the 2024 Paris Olympics when they defeated Australia 14–12 in the last seconds of the match.

Sullivan was born in Tacoma Washington before moving to Fayetteville North Carolina for her childhood. Sullivan enrolled at West Point after completing her education at Jack Britt High School in 2016. She started with soccer but discovered rugby during basic training which led her to become an outstanding rugby player. Sullivan received multiple All-American awards while playing both sevens and fifteens rugby at West Point before winning the 2019 Prusmack Award for being the top collegiate sevens player in the nation.

Sullivan entered the World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) of the U.S. Army after graduation to pursue elite athletic training while serving in the military. Sullivan made her USA Sevens team debut at the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town before joining the World Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai during the same year. The national team relies on her speed and agility combined with her leadership abilities which make her an essential player on the field.

Sullivan dedicates her time to support women in sports as well as personal development and leadership outside of rugby competitions. She uses her social media platform to showcase her Lego creations and share her building adventures with her fans.
