Sam Cowart

Samuel Cowart, III is a former football player whom excelled both collegiately and in the National Football League for many years. As a Jacksonville, Florida native born in 1975, he became the Jacksonville Defensive Player of the Year as well as a USA Today All-America honorable mention during his high school years. He then went on to play for Florida State University, where he led the Seminoles in tackles in 1995 and set a school record with three fumbles returned or recovered for touchdowns. After coming back from a knee injury stronger than ever, Cowart was named the conference’s “Most Courageous Player” and was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 1998 NFL Draft. Over the course of his eightyear professional career, Cowart played for the Bills, New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings and was a member of the Houston Texans roster for a short period of time. He retired in 2006 after having played in 100 games and starting in 87 of them. Cowart currently works at a financial firm in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida.
