About Russell Martin
Russell Martin split his time as a teenager between baseball and hockey, playing both in high school in Quebec, Canada. Following high school, Martin moved to Florida to play baseball in junior college where he was discovered by MLB scouts. He went on to be drafted with the 17th overall pick in the 2002 MLB Draft by the Brooklyn Dodgers. In the minor leagues, Martin was converted into a catcher where he quickly found success, working his way up to the Majors in 2006. He immediately became the everyday catcher for the Dodgers right away, holding that role for 5 seasons in which he won a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award as well as taking 2 trips to the All-Star Game. Martin went on to play for both the New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates, hitting a career .259 with 119 HRs and 3 total trips to the All-Star Game.
