About Roy Nelson
Roy Nelson stands at 60 and 249 lbs. with long shaggy hair and a big grizzly beard, earning him the nickname Big Country when he competes. The Las Vegas native says he began his fighting career after being inspired by the classic movie Karate Kid. He made his mixed martial arts debut in 2004 and in after a quick 7-1 start to his career he signed with the IFLs Nevada Lions. In 2007, Nelson became the first and last IFL Heavyweight Champion, a title he went on to defend twice. Following the IFL, Nelson was selected to be one of 16 fighters in Spike TVs The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights, which he went on to win with a first round knockout. Nelson has compiled a 20-10 MMA record and competes in the Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Champion where he is currently ranked 8th in the official standings.
