About Ronel Blanco
The Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB) employ Ronel De Jesus Blanco as their professional Dominican baseball pitcher. Ronel De Jesus Blanco entered the world on August 31, 1993, in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Blanco started his baseball journey playing corner infield and outfield positions. At 18 years old he started pitching while working at a car wash to support his mother and himself.
The Astros signed Blanco as an international free agent when he turned 22 years old in 2016. Blanco entered the MLB when he debuted on April 9, 2022 before earning a starting role during the 2023 season. Blanco achieved the first no-hitter of the MLB season when he pitched against the Toronto Blue Jays during the 2024 season. Blanco achieved a 2.80 ERA while becoming the league leader in batting average against (.190) and hits per nine innings (6.13). The Astros organization chose Blanco as their Pitcher of the Year for the 2024 season. Blanco received a season-ending Tommy John surgery during May 2025.
