About Rick Spielman
Rick Spielman is a veteran NFL executive who serves as general manager of the Minnesota Vikings. He originally joined the Vikings as vice president of player personnel in 2006. Spielman was promoted to the general manager position in 2012. During his second draft with the team, Minnesota selected franchise cornerstone Adrian Peterson in the NFL Draft. Spielman originally began his career in the NFL as a scout with the Detroit Lions in 1990. He jumped to the Chicago Bears in 1998 to serve as director of pro personnel. In 2000, Spielman joined the Miami Dolphins as vice president of player personnel. He was eventually promoted to general manager in 2004. During his time in Miami, the Dolphins posted four winning seasons and captured the AFC East Division title in 2000. In between his stops in Miami and Minnesota, Spielman was an analyst for ESPN. His brother Chris played 11 seasons in the NFL and has also been a successful television analyst.
