Reggie Collier

Reggie Collier broke the mold as one of the first dual-threat quarterbacks in college football history. Collier also holds the distinction as one of the greatest players in Southern Miss history. He was inserted as the starting quarterback as a sophomore and led the Golden Eagles to a 6-0 start and first top 25 ranking. Collier helped USM beat in-state rivals Mississippi State and Ole Miss and win their first-ever bowl game. In 1981, Collier upped his game, becoming the first player to ever rush and pass for over 1,000 yards in a single season. The school finished 9-2-1 and ranked ninth in the country after wins over Mississippi State, Florida State and Alabama. As a senior, Collier led the program to another win over Alabama, which ended their 57-game home winning streak. He is a member of the USM Athletic Hall of Fame and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. Collier also has his jersey retired by the school. After leaving Southern Miss, he played three seasons in the USFL. Collier went on to briefly play in the NFL and Arena Football League. After retiring from football, he has spent time working in the Southern Miss athletic department.
