About Raven Saunders
Raven Saunders made a powerful statement while winning a silver medal in shot put at the Tokyo Olympics. Saunders threw up an X on the medal podium, something she said symbolizes, "It’s the intersection of where all people who are oppressed meet.” It is not the first time Saunders has been outspoken on social issues. She has been a powerful advocate for the LGBTQ community and for those that suffer with mental health issues. Saunders has been open about her own struggles with depression and thoughts of suicide. She originally took the OIympic stage in 2016, but did not end up with a medal. She was also a three-time NCAA Champion in college at Ole Miss.
