About Randy Carlyle
After four years playing in the Junior Hockey league improving his skills, Randy Carlyle became a professional player in the National Hockey League by being the 30th overall pick in the 1976 NHL Draft. In his first season he had five assists in 45 games and he led his team to the playoffs. His first few seasons in the league were years of offensive improvement for Carlyle because in the 1978-79 season after being traded to the Penguins he scored 13 goals and 47 points to lead all Penguins defensemen in scoring. Randy continued to play until the end of the 1993 season when he retired from playing. Like many great players on the ice, Randy went on to be a coach, and a good one at that. Randy even led the Anaheim Ducks to a 48-20-14 record in 2007 and earned a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals where he led the team to a championship after five games against the Ottawa Senators.
