About John Tortorella
John Tortorella played hockey at Concord-Carlisle High School in Concord, Massachusetts and earned a spot in their athletic hall of fame before heading off to play at the Unviersity of Maine. He played at Maine from 1978 to 1981 and then headed off to play in the ACHL with the Virginia Lancers, Nashville South Stars, Erie Golden Blades and Hampton Roads Gulls from 1982 to 1986. In 1988 he began his coaching career with the Virginia Lancers and went on to coach ECHL and AHL until landing his first head coaching gig in the NHL with the New York Rangers in 1999. In 2000 he was hired as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning and led them to a Stanley Cup title in 2004. He returned to the Rangers in 2008 and led them to four playoff appearances before signing on as the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks in 2013.
