Peter DeBoer

Peter DeBoer is one of the most successful and longest-tenured head coaches in the NHL. DeBoer has led six different franchises and currently is the head coach of the New York Islanders.

The Dallas Stars made back-to-back trips to the Western Conference Finals in his first two years, 2023 and 2024. In all three of DeBoer's previous stops, he also led teams at least to the Conference Finals. While guiding the Vegas Golden Knights, they also made back-to-back WCF trips in his first two seasons.

DeBoer coached the San Jose Sharks from 2015-20, making four playoff trips and a Stanley Cup appearance in year one. The New Jersey Devils also made it to the Stanley Cup Final in his first season with them, 2012. 

DeBoer's first head coaching job came with the Florida Panthers in 2008. He had previously been a highly regarded juniors coach from the Ontario Hockey League.

In the OHL, DeBoer coached three different teams over 13 seasons. Twice, DeBoer was named OHL Coach of the Year and in 2003 he won the Memorial Cup with the Kitchener Rangers. DeBoer had a successful playing career in the OHL with the Windsor Spitfires and also spent three seasons with the IHL’s Milwaukee Admirals after being drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs. DeBoer is a graduate of both the University of Windsor and University of Detroit law schools as part of their dual JD program.
