About Pete Metzelaars
Pete Metzelaars is the current tight ends coach of the San Diego Chargers who had a successful 16-year playing career in the NFL. Metzelaars became an important receiving target for Jim Kelly and went to four Super Bowls with the Buffalo Bills. After his time in Buffalo, he joined the expansion Carolina Panthers and caught the first touchdown in team history. When Metzelaars retired in 1997, his 235 games were the most ever played by a tight end. Upon retirement, he had opportunities coaching small colleges and in NFL Europe before former offensive coordinator Tom Moore came calling. Metzelaars then spent eight years under Moore on the Indianapolis Colts staff, ultimately rising to the position of offensive line coach. He was a Super Bowl winning coach at Super Bowl XLI. Following Moore’s semi-retirement, Metzelaars went on to coach tight ends for the Buffalo Bills and then to his current post with the Chargers.
