About Nolan Richardson
Nolan Richardson is an Arkansas legend. He took the Razorbacks men's basketball team to four Final Fours and they won the national championship in 1994. Richardson importantly made history as the first black coach of a major program in the South. He became known for the fast-paced style his teams played with, nicknamed "40 Minutes of Hell."
Richardson also became successful prior to his run in Fayetteville as the head coach at Tulsa. He led the Golden Hurricane to three NCAA Tournament trips and one NIT championship in five seasons. Richardson was also a two-time Missouri Valley Coach of the Year and his team's won the conference regular season twice. He had previously served as the head coach at Western Texas Junior College, where he won the NJCAA national championship in 1980. Richardson is the only coach to have won an NCAA, NIT and NJCAA title.
Richardson originally started his coaching career at Bowie High School in El Paso, Texas. He also had a brief stint coaching the WNBA's Tulsa Shock and runs as the national team coach for Panama and Mexico to end his career. Richardson is a member of the College Basketball Hall of Fame and the Basketball Hall of Fame.
