About Nneka Ogwumike
Nneka Ogwumike is a basketball forward of Nigerian descent who plays for the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women’s National Basketball Association. Ogwumike attended Stanford University where she helped the Cardinal reach the NCAA Final Four, four times. She was a member of the USA Under-18 Team that won a gold in Argentina. On January 23, 2010, Ogwumike broke the Cardinal’s record for rebounds in a game with 23. She left the Stanford Cardinal as the second all-time leading scorer for the women’s basketball program behind Candice Wiggins. Ogwumike played for the USA Women’s U19 Team that represented the USA in the 2009 U19 World’s Championship where they won the gold medal. The LA Sparks selected Ogwumike as the first overall pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft on April 6, 2012. During her rookie season, Ogwumike was named WNBA Rookie of the Month four out of five times. On October 7, 2012, she was awarded as the 2012 WNBA Rookie of the Year.
