About Nick Thoman
Nick Thoman is an American competition swimmer who specializes in backstroke and is an Olympic gold medalist. From age 8 all the way through high school, Thoman swam for Cincinnati Aquatic Club under Benson Spurling. At the 2009 Duel in the Pool, Thoman combined with three others in the 4x100-meter medley relay to break the world record previously held by Canada. As he was leading the relay, Thoman also broke the world record in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 48.94. During the 2010 National Championships, Thoman qualified to swim at the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in the 50, 100, and 200-meter backstroke. At the Championships, Thoman took third place in the 100-meter backstroke, 5th place in the 200-meter backstroke and took home the bronze in the 50-meter backstroke. Thoman won a gold medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay at the 2010 FINA Short Course World Championships. At the 2011 World Aquatics Championships, he placed fourth in the final of the 100-meter backstroke. Thoman participated in the 100-meter backstroke during the 2012 Summer Olympics. He earned a silver in the 100-meter backstroke and a gold medal swimming the backstroke leg in the 4x100-meter medley relay.
