Nick Calathes

Nick Calathes is a is a Greek-American professional basketball player who plays point guard/ shooting guard for the Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association. Calathes accepted an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida from 2007-2009. In 2008, Calathes was the SEC Newcomer of the Year and the SEC co-Freshman of the Year. Calathes was a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection in 2009. On May 23, 2009, Calathes announced that he would bypass the NBA to play for the Greek Basket League. He agreed to a three-year deal with the elite Euroleague club Panathinaikos Athens. Despite his commitment to play in Greece, he was selected in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. During his first year with Panathinaikos he won the Greek league championship and he played in the Greek Youth All-Star Game. In 2012, Calathes signed a two-year deal with the Russian VTB United League team Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar. On July 22, 2013, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies and signed with them on August 20, 2013.
