About Max Bretos
Max Bretos is a sports reporter for ESPN. Prior to his broadcasting career, Bretos attended Judith Weston Acting Studio and played for the Santa Monica Rugby Club. In 1994, he earned a degree in international relations from Florida State University. After college, Bretos served as a broadcaster for Fox Soccer Channel from 1998- 2010, making him the longest-serving broadcaster in the history of the network. Bretos had a broadcasting catchphrase of, “Schelotto, yeah!” In January 2010, Bretos resigned from FSC to work with ESPNews. Bretos was hired to serve primarily as an anchor on SportsCenter. In 2012, Bretos was suspended for a month from ESPN after saying, “chick in the armor” while referencing Jeremy Lin. Bretos made an apology to Lin via Twitter, but he was not the only broadcaster who used that reference. Bretos currently serves as the premier voice for soccer on ESPN networks and he ahs served as the lead anchor for MLS Cup since 2010.
