About Mary Sauer
Mary Sauer is a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin. During her younger days she was a standout athlete in multiple sports, but eventually settled on the pole vault. After high school she took her talents to Azusa Pacific University, where she earned AllAmerican honors five times in both indoor and outdoor competition. Sauer graduated in 1997 and began pursuing a successful career as a professional track and field athlete. In 2000 she was a solid competitor at the United States Olympic Trials, finishing just out of contention for a spot, but establishing herself as a top candidate in the world. The following year she became the third American woman ever to break the 15-foot barrier by posting a 4.61 meter vault in Irvine, California. In 2002 she followed that up with a personal best jump of 4.65 meters in Madrid. In 2003 she finished her career with a career best 10th place finish at the World Championships in Paris, France.
