Mark Buehrle

Mark Buehrle grew up in Missouri, idolizing the St. Louis Cardinals of the late 1980’s. He later became an idol to many, debuting professionally in Major League Baseball in 2000. However, Buehrle’s talents were not always perceived as something to marvel at; he was cut from his high school baseball team his sophomore year. Buehrle did not lose faith in himself or the sport and later went on to attend Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Missouri. In 1998, Buehrle was selected in the MLB draft by the Chicago White Sox. As a lefty pitcher, Buehrle was a remarkable asset to the team, staying with them for eleven seasons. He was then traded to the Miami Marlins in 2012 and subsequently to the Toronto Blue Jays. Throughout his professional career, Buehrle was a five-time All-Star, a World Series champion, and a four-time Gold Glove Award winner. In addition, he pitched a no-hitter in his 2007 season with the White Sox and a perfect game in the 2009 season. Buehrle is a commendable example of what you accomplish with determination and perseverance.
