About Marcus Freeman
At just 35 years old, Marcus Freeman got one of the most coveted jobs in sports: head football coach at Notre Dame. Freeman quickly ascended in the coaching profession by developing a strong reputation as a recruiter and defensive mind. He spent the 2021 season as the defensive coordinator for the Fighting Irish. That came off a four-year run as the defensive coordinator at Cincinnati that culminated in Freeman being named 247Sports Defensive Coordinator of the Year. He had previously coached at Purdue from 2013-16, rising to co-defensive coordinator in his final season. Freeman originally started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Ohio State in 2010 before joining the staff at Kent State. He was a two-time All-Big Ten Second Team selection at linebacker for the Buckeyes.
