About Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf
Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf had a nine-year NBA career and is know for being one of the most accurate free throw shooters in league history. He finished just one free throw short of the single-season record in 1994. The Denver Nuggets originally made him the third overall pick of the 1990 NBA Draft. He spent the first six seasons of his career with the Nuggets and also spent time with the Sacramento Kings and Vancouver Grizzlies. While in Denver, he participated in the 1993 Slam Dunk Contest and was named the NBA's Most Improved Player that year. He did make waves during his final year for the Nuggets by refusing to stand for the national anthem. After his NBA career came to a close, Abdul-Rauf spent several years playing oversees. Before coming into the league, he was a two-time consensus first-team All-American and Southeastern Conference Player of the Year.
