Lynne Cox Biography

Lynne Cox has achieved many swimming feats in long-distance open-water situations. The Swimming Hall of Fame inducted her in 2000.  Cox has twice crossed the English Channel in a faster time than any other person.  She was the first woman to swim the Cook Strait and the first person to swim the Straights of Magellan and the Cape of Good Hope.  Her over two-hour swim in the Bering Strait in 1987 helped relations between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.   Cox has written five books, including Swimming to Antarctica about her mile long swim in the frigid conditions.  Her writing ranges from children’s books to survival guides.  She is from Boston, Massachusetts and first started swimming at the age of nine in Manchester, New Hampshire.  Her speaking topics include how to sustain success, dealing with setbacks, and connecting to the world.
