About Brooke Bennett
Brooke Bennett grew up in sunny Tampa, Florida and spent the majority of her time in the water. In 1996 she burst onto the international swimming scene with a gold medal win in the 800-meter freestyle at the Atlanta Olympic Games. What made that win so special is that it came just days after the passing of her beloved grandfather. At the 1997 and 1999 Pan Pacific Games she continued to impress, earning two more gold medals in the 800-meter freestyle, a gold in the 400-meter freestyle and another gold in the 1,500-meter. In 2000 she successfully defended her Olympic Gold Medal at the Sydney Olympic Games and also captured another gold in the 400-meter freestyle. Bennett is considered to be the greatest American female Olympic freestyle swimmer of all-time with 14 National Titles in the 400m, 800m and 1500m and multiple gold medals. Since her retirement from swimming she has traveled the country as a motivational speaker and continues to be a valuable ambassador for the sport of swimming around the world.
