About Luke Kornet
Luke Kornet is a 7’2” center for the San Antonio Spurs, nicknamed “The Murder Kornet,” known for his unique blend of size, shot-blocking, and three-point shooting. He hails from Lantana, Texas, the son of former NBA player Frank Kornet. He played college ball at Vanderbilt, earning All-SEC and All-SEC Defensive honors his senior year. He holds the NCAA record for three-pointers made by a player 7 feet or taller at 150 and is Vanderbilt’s all-time block leader with 210.
Undrafted in 2017, he signed a two-way contract with the New York Knicks and debuted with a historic double-double, including three three-pointers and four blocks, a first in the NBA’s history. Kornet has been the quintessential NBA journeyman, with stints with the Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, and G League Maine Celtics before finding a home in Boston.
He signed with the Celtics in 2022 and contributed as a reliable reserve, averaging 5.4 points and 4.1 rebounds in the 2023-24 season. His efficiency shone in 2024, shooting 70% from the field, 100% from three, and 90.7% from the free-throw line, a historic stat line. He ended the year hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy. He is a devout Catholic, maintaining a blog about churches he visits, and holds degrees in computer science and mathematics.
