About Lou Whitaker
Lou Whitaker is one of the most beloved players in Detroit Tigers history. Whitaker immediately made an impact with the Tigers, winning American League Rookie of the Year in 1978. He was one of the more consistent performers in baseball, earning five straight All-Star bids from 1983-87. Whitaker also helped Detroit win the 1984 World Series. He was a three-time Gold Glove winner and four-time Silver Slugger recipient. For nearly his entire career, Whitaker teammed with Alan Trammell to form one of the greatest double play combinations in baseball history. He played with the Tigers through the 1995 season and retired with over 2,000 hits.
