Jack Morris Biography

Jack Morris is a former professional baseball player who, over the span of his eighteen-year career, won four World Series Championships with three different professional teams. Morris was a pitcher in the major leagues. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1955 and played the majority of his career with the Detroit Tigers, ringing in a career total of 254 wins and almost 2,500 strikeouts. Morris was most famously recognized for his fastball, slider and forkball. Throughout the 1980’s, he pitched the most innings, started the most games, and had the most wins of any pitcher in the American League that decade. He was the American League strikeout champion in 1983, a five-time All-Star, four-time World Series champion, and the World Series Most Valuable Player in 1991. Throughout his professional career, he made appearances on the mound for the Tigers, the Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians. Morris’ last game played was with the Cleveland Indians in August of 1994. During four different years of his career, Morris was the highest paid pitcher in the American League. After retirement, he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and worked in the broadcasting field for both the Twins and the Blue Jays. In addition, Morris focuses on his favorite hobbies of fishing and hunting in life after baseball.
