About Laurie Hernandez
Laurie Hernandez is a member of the "Final Five" U.S. women's gymnastics team that captured gold in the team all-around competition at the 2016 Olympics. With the victory, Hernandez became the first person born in the 21st century to win Olympic gold. She also qualified to compete individually on the balance beam at the Games. Just a month after making her senior debut, Hernandez won team all-around gold at the Pacific Rim Championships. As a junior in 2015, she was the national all-around champion. At Nationals, Hernandez also captured gold on uneven bars, silver on floor exercise and bronze on the balance beam and vault. She made her first waves in the gymastics world at Nationals in 2013. There she won four medals in junior competition. Hernandez attended her first U.S. Nationals at the age of 12 in 2012.
