About Johan Santana
At his best, there was no pitcher harder to hit than Johan Santana. Santana was a four-time All-Star and two-time Cy Young Award winner. In 2006, he won the first Major League Pitching Triple Crown since Dwight Gooden in 1985. Santana achieved all of his early-career success with the Minnesota Twins but signed the richest pitching contract in baseball history at the time in 2008 with the New York Mets. He threw the first no-hitter in Mets history in 2012. Santana was discovered in Venezuela in 1994 and originally signed by the Houston Astros. The Twins picked him up in the 1999 Rule 5 Draft. He is one of just a handful of players to go on to success being selected in the Rule 5 Draft. The Johan Santana Foundation has contributed to many different charitable causes since it was established in 2006.
