About Joe Thornton
Joe Thornton is a hockey Hall of Famer and the only NHL MVP winner across two franchises in one season. Selected first overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, the imposing playmaker served as captain before a blockbuster 2005-06 midseason trade to the San Jose Sharks. That season, he became the only player in NHL history to win the Art Ross Trophy as the league's scoring leader and the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's MVP while splitting time between teams. Thornton played over 1,700 NHL games across the Bruins, Sharks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Florida Panthers, amassing 430 goals and 1,109 assists for 1,539 points. Known for his elite passing, size, and leadership, he retired in 2023 after a 24-year career. Thornton remains one of the most respected two-way centers in league history.
