About Joe Smith
Joe Smith is one of the top relief pitchers in baseball. After being the Horizon League Pitcher of the Year at Wright State, Smith was selected by the New York Mets in the third round of the 2006 MLB Draft. He made the major league team out of spring training the following year. Smith pitched for the Mets for two seasons before being traded to the Cleveland Indians. He became a force to be reckoned with while with the Indians, posting three consecutive seasons of over 70 appearances and a sub-3.00 ERA from 2011-13. Smith went on to sign with the Los Angeles Angels in 2014 and posted the best season of his career. He made 76 appearances and had a 1.81 ERA. Smith was traded to the Chicago Cubs midway through the 2016 season and was part of their World Series champion team. He split the 2017 season between the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland before signing with the Houston Astros.
