Jim Paxson Biography

Jim Paxson is a former NBA player, executive, and current senior advisor for basketball operations at the University of Dayton. Son of NBA player Jim Paxson Sr., he starred at Dayton’s Alter High School before excelling at the University of Dayton, earning three-time team MVP and USBWA All-American honors. Drafted 12th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in 1979, the 6-foot-6 swingman played nine seasons with Portland and two with the Boston Celtics (1988–1990), retiring with 11.3 points per game over 758 games. A two-time NBA All-Star (1983, 1984) and 1984 All-NBA Second Team member, he later became an executive with the Trail Blazers (1990–1998), Cleveland Cavaliers (1998–2005), and Chicago Bulls (2006–2024). In 2025, Paxson joined Dayton’s basketball staff, aiding with player evaluation and revenue-sharing strategies.
