J.D. Drew

David Jonathan Drew, somehow switched around to become known as “J.D. Drew”, was a well-known right fielder in the MLB for over a decade. Drew was born in Valdosta, Georgia in 1975 and has two brothers that also played in the major leagues. As a student athlete at Florida State University, he was the recipient of the Dick Howser Trophy, Golden Spikes Award, Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year, ACC Player of the Year and Sporting News Player of the Year in 1997. As if 1997 was not a great enough year for him already, he also became the first player in college baseball history to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in a single season. Setting numerous other records at Florida State, Drew went on to debut professionally in 1998 with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played the most seasons of his professional career with the Cardinals and the Red Sox, while also spending a season with the Atlanta Braves and two with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Drew won a World Series Championship with the Boston Red Sox in 2011 and played in his final professional game with them in 2011. Drew and his brother are the first pair of siblings to be drafted in the first round of a Major League Baseball Draft in the same year. Throughout his professional career, Drew also made the list of the top 300 Major League Baseball home run hitters to ever exist.
