J.J. Redick Biography

J.J. Redick had a successful 15-year career in NBA and is one of the all-time greats in college basketball. While at Cave Spring High School, he earned McDonald’s All-American Most Valuable Player honors in 2002 after leading his team to a Virginia State title with a 43-point performance in the championship game. He then matriculated to Duke University and became the top player in the country.

During his first year with the Blue Devils, he earned Third Team All-ACC and All-ACC Rookie Team honors after leading his team to a victory in the ACC Tournament. He enjoyed much of the same success as a sophomore, earning Third Team All-American and Second-Team All-ACC honors. His junior and senior years however have gone down in the record books as two of the best seasons in college basketball history. After averaging over 21.8 points per game as a junior and topping that with 26.8 points as a senior he earned consecutive Consensus First Team All-American, ACC Player of the Year, and ACC Tournament MVP honors to go along with two Adolph Rupp Trophies and the 2006 National College Player of the Year award. By the time his college career ended he owned the ACC scoring record with 2,587 career points. Duke retired his legendary No. 4 jersey in 2007.

Redick was a first-round pick of the Orlando Magic and played his first seven seasons for the franchise, growing into a reliable contributor for playoff teams, including the 2009 squad that reached the NBA Finals. He was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2013 and continued to be one of the league's three-point specialists during stops with the Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks before retiring in 2021.
