Hal Morris Biography

Hal Morris is a former major league first baseman who played from 1988-2000. He is best known for an eight-year run with the Cincinnati Reds. Morris played college baseball at the University of Michigan and was part of the Wolverines team that made the College World Series in 1984. The New York Yankees went on to select him in the eighth round of the 1986 MLB Draft. Morris made his big league debut with the Yankees two years later. After playing just 15 games in each of his first two seasons, he was still considered a rookie when he was traded to the Reds prior to the 1990 season. Morris hit .340 and finished third in National League Rookie of the Year voting. He helped Cincinnati win the World Series. Morris finished second in the NL with a .318 batting average in 1991. He also led the league in average at the 1994 All-Star break. Morris went on to sign with the Kansas City Royals for the 1998 season but returned to the Reds in 1999. He spent one final season with the Detroit Tigers before retiring in 2000. After retiring, Morris got his MBA from Stanford University and took up various business ventures. He was also the director of professional scouting for the Los Angeles Angels from 2012-16.
