About Frank Coonelly
Frank Coonelly served as the president of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2007-2019. After a 20-year playoff absence, the Pirates made the postseason three straight years from 2013-15. Before joining the organization, Coonelly was the senior vice president and general counsel of labor in the Major League Baseball Commissioner's Office. He was key in negotiating collective bargaining agreements with the MLB Players Association and the World Umpires Association. Coonelly got into sports in 1998 after working as a labor and employment lawyer with the Washington D.C. firm, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. During that time, he represented the MLB as an outside legal counsel. Coonelly is a graduate of Catholic University Law School. He currently sits on the board of Pirates Charities, Allegheny Conference, Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce and the Make-A-Wish of Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Coonelly is also on the advisory council of the Hillman Cancer Center. He was The Circus Saints and Sinners Club of America, Inc. 2016 Man of the Year.
