About Esera Tuaolo
Esera Tuaolo is known is a strong LGBT rights advocate. He is the third former NFL player to come out as gay. Tuaolo serves as board member for the Gay and Lesbian Athletes Foundation. In 2006, his autobiography, "Alone in the Trenches: My Life As a Gay Man in the NFL," was published. Tuaolo had a standout nine-year career as a defensive tackle in the NFL. He was a two-time All-Pac 10 Conference first-team pick at Oregon State. Tuaolo was also a finalist for the Lombardi Award and Outland Trophy before being selected in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. He became the first Packers rookie to start 16 games and was named to the 1991 All-Rookie Team. Tuaolo went on to play five years for the Minnesota Vikings. After a season with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1997, he went to Super Bowl XXXIII with the Atlanta Falcons. Tuaolo retired after spending the 1999 season with the Carolina Panthers. Off the gridiron, he is also a standout singer. Tuaolo has sung the National Anthem at numerous sporting events. He was also a contestant on season 13 of The Voice.
