Eric Wynalda

Eric Wynalda is one of the top soccer players in United States history, and until 2008 was the all-time leading scorer for the U.S. Men's National Team. After 3 seasons with San Diego State University where he scored 34 goals and had 25 assists, Wynalda began his professional career with the United States Soccer Federation in 1990, who loaned him to the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks for 2 seasons. Wynalda then became the first American born player to play in Germany's top league, Bundesliga. Wynalda quickly impressed overseas and became the first American to be given any high award in a European league when he won Bundesliga's award for the best player. Wynalda came back to the United States in 1996 to play for the newly formed Major League Soccer and in the MLS's inaugural game he scored the first goal in League history. Wynalda began playing for the U.S. National Team in 1990 and after 3 World Cup appearances and 104 caps, he retired as the all-time leader in goals with 34 and in 2004 was elected into the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Wynalda began working for ESPN shortly after his retirement as a soccer analyst, calling several World Cups for the network and after several moves in the industry, he currently works as an analyst for Fox Sports One.
