About Eric Shanteau
Eric Lee Shanteau became a national swimming champion as a high schooler, where he managed to graduate with a 4.0 GPA on top of his swimming records. Shanteau went on to swim for Auburn University where he was an 11-time All-American and in the 2005 World University Games became the first American to win the gold medal in both the 200-meter and 400-meter individual medley relay events. After narrowly missing a trip to the 2004 Olympics, Shanteau qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games and despite being diagnosed with testicular cancer, still competed at the games before undergoing surgery to remove the cancer. In 2009, Shanteau set an American record in the 200-meter breaststroke at the U.S. National Championships and set a world record as a part of the 4x100 meter individual medley relay team at the World Championships. At the 2012 Olympic Games, Shanteau and the rest of the 4x100 meter medley relay team brought home a gold medal with a time of 3:32.65.
