About Ellis Burks
Making his major league debut in 1987, Ellis Burks was only 22 when he first roamed the outfield for the Boston Red Sox. That rookie season, Burks became only the third Red Sock in history to hit for 20 home runs and steal 20 bases in the same season. After six, injury plagued seasons with the Red Sox, Burks signed a one year contract with the White Sox where he once again impressed by batting .304 and lasting the whole season without injury. Burks went on to play for the Colorado Rockies where he had the best season of his career in 1996, hitting .344 and leading the National League in several batting categories including runs (142). Burks played for a short stint with the San Francisco Giants to provide lineup support to Barry Bonds and Jeff Kent and then moved to the Cleveland Indians to fill a role as a DH. After surgery to his hand, Burks was dropped by the Indians but picked up again by the Red Sox. In his final season with his old team, Burks finally won a World Series ring and was able to retire from the game with the Red Sox.
