About Edwin Moses
Edwin Moses began his track and field career at the college level by trying to find spare track time at local high school tracks in the area. By 1976 he had become so good that he qualified for the U.S. Olympic team for the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. Moses quickly made a name for himself internationally as he won gold in the 400-meter hurdles and set a new world record at 47.63 seconds. After a loss the following year in 1977, Moses then went on a streak that saw him win every race for over 9 years. During that time he went on to win another Olympic gold, 2 gold medals at World Championships, and 3 at the IAAF World Cups. Moses was one of the leaders in reform that allowed US Olympic athletes receiving stipends and sponsorships without losing their eligibility. Throughout his career, Moses broke his own world record numerous times and was honored with athlete of the year titles in the United States on numerous occasions.
