Donnie Shell Biography

Donnie Shell was a standout safety during his NFL career and the latest member of the Pittsburgh Steelers "Steel Curtain Defense" of the 1970s to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Shell was a five-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro. He won four Super Bowl championships with the Steelers. At the time of his retirement in 1987, Shell was the all-time leader with 51 interceptions. The 11-year starter played in 201 games, which ranks second in Pittsburgh team history. Shell was announced as part of the NFL's centennial induction class into the Hall of Fame in 2020. He is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame for his time as an All-American at South Carolina State University.
