Don Strock

Don Strock has a unique legacy in South Florida sports history. Strock spent nearly his entire playing career with the Miami Dolphins after leading the country in passing yards and total offense at Virginia Tech. Strock was a fifth-round pick of the Dolphins in the 1973 NFL Draft and went on to back up two legendary quarterbacks in Bob Griese and Dan Marino. He is best remembered for his role in a game known as "The Epic in Miami." Strock came off the bench down 24-0 in the playoffs to the San Diego Chargers and threw for over 400 yards and four touchdowns. Miami would tie the game before losing in overtime. After playing for the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts, Strock retired. He uniquely started his coaching career as the head coach of the Miami Hooters in the Arena Football League. Strock spent two seasons in the AFL and one year with NFL Europe's Rhein Fire as offensive coordinator before getting to coach quarterbacks in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens. Strock was brought back to Miami in 2000 as the first coach in Florida International University history. He coached FIU from 2002-06.
