Derrick McKey

Former NBA star Derrick McKey was a standout baseball and basketball player at Meridian High School in Mississippi and eventually made his way to the University of Alabama.  In Tuscaloosa he led the Crimson Tide to a Sweet 16 appearance during the 1986-87 season while also playing for Team USA and leading the red, white, and blue to a FIBA World Championship in 1986.  In 1987 the Seattle Supersonics selected McKey in the first round with the 9th overall pick.  He’d go on to play for the SuperSonics until landing in Indiana with the Pacers in 1993.  He spent the remainder of his career in Indiana before retiring with the Philadelphia 76ers after one year in 2002.   During his career he was known as a premier defensive player that was able to offer his team versatility as a guard or forward.  Selected as a two-time All-NBA Second Team Defensive player, McKey was savvy on the court and always found a way to get the ball in the hoop while also being involved in every aspect of the game.
