About Dan O’Dowd
Dan O ’Dowd is a visionary engineer, entrepreneur, former MLB executive, and advocate for software safety. He earned his degree from Caltech in 1976 before starting his career at NASA and Boeing and Airbus and U.S. military aircraft where he became known as a leading expert in safety-critical software for developing secure systems.
O’Dowd established Green Hills Software in 1982 while leading the company as CEO for forty years until it reached a valuation of nearly $1 billion in 2019. His platforms power high-stakes industries, from medical devices to avionics. Throughout his fifteen years in Orioles and Indians front offices he served as GM of the Colorado Rockies from 1999 to 2014 and received the 2009 GM of the Year award while guiding the Rockies to the 2007 World Series.
The Dawn Project emerged in 2021 as a nonprofit organization under O’Dowd’s leadership to establish better safety standards for critical code. Through his efforts he has launched forceful initiatives to stop Tesla's Full Self-Driving until it fulfills strict safety requirements while spending more than $10 million on Senate ads and congressional lobbying.
O’Dowd co-founded WIN Reality in 2018 with his son Chris to use immersive technology for athlete training. He regularly appears on MLB Network to provide his baseball analysis to audiences.
